Care guide

Care guidance for your customers

925 sterling silver is made to be worn, and a few simple habits keep it bright for years. Share these tips with your customers, in store or online, to help them enjoy their pieces for longer.

The essentials

Three habits that make the difference

Everyday care

Put jewellery on last, after make-up, perfume and hair products, and take it off first. Wear your pieces often, as the natural oils in your skin actually help keep silver bright. Remove rings and bracelets before heavy tasks to avoid knocks and scratches.

Give each piece a quick wipe with a soft cloth after wearing to lift away oils and moisture.

Cleaning at home

For everyday shine, buff gently with a soft, lint-free or dedicated silver-polishing cloth. For a deeper clean, use warm water with a drop of mild washing-up liquid, work gently with your fingers or a soft brush, then rinse and pat dry.

Always dry pieces fully before storing. Avoid abrasive cloths, toothpaste and harsh chemical dips, which can dull the finish and harm stones.

Storage

Store pieces dry and apart, in a soft pouch or a lined box, so they cannot rub together. The same applies to shop stock: keeping air out slows tarnish, so sealed bags or a small anti-tarnish strip work well.

Fasten chains and clasps before putting them away to prevent tangles and kinks.

Good to know

Questions your customers ask

Why does silver tarnish, and can I fix it?

Tarnish is a natural reaction between silver and the air, and it is harmless. It shows as a dull or slightly darkened surface. A gentle buff with a silver-polishing cloth brings the shine straight back, and good storage slows it down in the first place.

Can I wear my silver in water?

Best not to. Remove pieces before showering, swimming and the gym. Chlorine, salt water, soaps and sweat all speed up tarnish and can dull the finish. A quick splash will not ruin anything, but regular exposure will shorten its shine.

I have sensitive skin. Is sterling silver safe for me?

Yes. Our 925 sterling silver is hypoallergenic with nickel-safe finishes, so it suits most sensitive skin. Keeping pieces clean and dry helps further, as trapped moisture and product residue are the usual causes of irritation.

Why did my ring leave a faint mark on my skin?

An occasional light mark is a harmless reaction between tarnish, moisture and lotions or acidity on the skin. It washes off easily. Cleaning the piece, keeping it dry and applying products before you put jewellery on will usually stop it happening.
